Recipes - Crab Sukka

Ingredients:

3 big crabs (shelled, washed and cut)
1 cup grated coconut
1 onion (sliced)
1 “ ginger (chopped)
5-6 flakes garlic (sliced)
1 tomato (chopped)
4-5 cloves
1” cinnamon
2-3 bay leaves
Pinch of asafetida (hing)
Salt as per taste

For Masala:

8-10 long red chillies
1 medium onion
2 tbsp. coriander
1 tsp. cumin/jeera
½ tsp. turmeric powder
2-3 seeds tamarind
3-4 pepper corns
1 tbsp. rice (roasted and puffed)

Seasoing:

2 tbsp. coconut oil
5-6 flakes garlic (crushed)
Handful of curry leaves

Method:

Dry roast all the masala ingredients except tamarind. Roast onion on fire. Once cooled peel onion and chop roughly. Later grind onion and tamarind along with roasted ingredients into a fine paste.

Cook crabs along with sliced onion, tomato, ginger, garlic, cinnamon, cloves , bay leaves, salt and masala paste. Add masala water as well. Cook for about 15 mts. or until done. Lastly add grated coconut and mix well and cook for another 2 mts.

Heat oil. Splutter mustard, brown crushed garlic and curry leaves. Pour this over crab sukka.

Serve with steamed rice and sambar of your choice.
