Recipes - Mackerel Curry (Mogaveera Style)

Ingredients:

3-4 medium mackerels
2 green chillies (minced)
½" ginger
1 small onion (sliced)
4 tbsp. coconut oil
5 flakes garlic (crushed)
Salt as per taste

To Grind:

10 short red chillies
2 long red chillies
1 cup grated coconut
2 -3 seeds tamarind
1 small onion (minced )
5 sprig curry leaves
4 flakes garlic
1 tsp. cumin
2 tbsp. coriander
¼ tsp. turmeric powder

Method:

Heat 1 tbsp. of oil and lightly brown onion, garlic and curry leaves ( 3 sprigs ). Add chillies and coriander and fry for some time.

Grind all the roasted ingredients adding coconut, garlic, turmeric powder and tamarind into a fine paste.

Transfer masala into a pot and adjust the consistency adding water. Mix finely minced green chilly, onion and ginger along with curry leaves in 1 tbsp. of oil and add to the gravy. Boil the gravy well. Add salt and fish pieces and cook for five mts or until fish is cooked and set it side.

Mix crushed garlic in coconut oil and sprinkle over the gravy and cover to seal the flavours.

Serve with steamed rice.
