Udupi: Like-minded associations support direct action day against Surathkal tollgate

Udupi, Oct 12: Like Minded organizations of Udupi district have expressed their support for the direct action against Surathkal toll gate planned by Surathkal Tollgate Virdohi Horata Samthi on October 18.

Speaking at a press conference Balakrishna Shetty of CPIM said, “Surathkal toll gate is an illegal tollgate and is looting money from the public. Surathkal tollgate was proposed as a temporary tollgate just for six months. For the last six years agitations are ongoing demanding the removal of this tollgate. Central road transport minister Nithin Gadkari had also stated that all the tollgates within the gap of 60 kms are illegal, and had assured that it will be removed within three months. Thousands of people of undivided Dakshina Kannada will be participating in this movement. Many like minded organizations have supported this cause,” he said.

“Everyday more than prescribed tender amount is being collected which is being used for personal benefits. On October 14 organizations of Udupi district will hold a rally to create awareness among masses about the movement,” he added.

Sunder Master, DSS leader Keerthi Shetty, Congress leader Prakash Adiga, secretary taximen association Sanjeev Balkur and others were present during the press conference
