Udupi, Oct 13: The Supreme Court has given a split verdict on the restriction of Muslim girls wearing Hijab in schools and colleges in the state.

"We respect the judicial system. It is proved that there is provision for proper judicial and fundamental rights in the country. Girls should be supported in their education. They should not be suppressed. It is been discussed in the court that fundamental rights should not be denied. We are sure that the court will support the fundamental rights of children to their education," said Hussain Kodi Bengre.

Convener of APCR, Hussain Kodi Bengre is an applicant for the case in the court.

“We had assumed that there might be the possibility of a split verdict. It is a matter of education of several students,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sri Rama Sena leader Mohan Bhat said, “The split verdict of the Supreme Court has created confusion. We do not disagree the verdict. As a citizen of India, we will respect the verdict.

“There is a certain policy in the education system. This has been done so that there will not be any discrimination among the government, administration, and students. There is suspicion that the PFI intentionally has created this controversy.

"Indira Gandhi brought this law of uniform code in schools because there should not be any discrimination. It is because there should be equality. This is a good measure. They claim that Hijab is part of their religion. Let them follow that in their places," he said.
