Mangaluru: Milagres Church completes renovation project

Media Release

Mangaluru, Oct 15: Our Lady of Miracles Church popularly known as Milagres Church had begun the church renovation last year. The work happened in two phases. As a part of the second phase the church flooring which had collapsed due to the loose soil underneath was redone.

Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, emeritus bishop of Mangalore presided over the celebration and blessed the renovated flooring during the Mass. Msgr Maxim Noronha, the vicar general of the diocese preached the homily and exhorted everyone to pray and make prayer an essential part of Christian life. He said, "If we persevere in prayer we become closer to God and God wants us to be close. Jesus during his ministry taught his disciples to pray and He calls all of to pray with persistence."

After the solemn Mass, Fr Bonaventure Nazareth thanked all the donors, the well wishers, parishioners, the engineers and workers who made this work possible. The dean of episcopal city deanery Fr Vincent Monteiro, priests from the deanery along with the parish clergy concelebrated the solemn Mass.

It is appreciable that the Milagres church selected the Athangadi tiles for the renovated floors. These tiles are made by people manually. Each tile is designed and made by hand by the artisans. Compared to the machine-made tiles these look beautiful and also an encouragement to the people who work at the Athangadi village. After I read about this in the writeup I went through websites to learn about these tiles which have been made for generations by manual artisans. Great to see the work and appreciate the team which selected these tiles

Are these Kashmir carpets laid so seamlessly on the floors, or are they marble? If marble, the weight may collapse the floor again.
