Udupi, Oct 17: "Students can achieve success in life only if they work hard and have a goal," said Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop, diocese of Udupi.

He was speaking at a scholarship distribution programme organized by the Catholic Sabha and the John D'Silva Foundation at Manasa Rehabilitation Center in Pambur on Sunday, October 16.

"In today's competitive world there are many opportunities for students to carve out a better future but getting it requires hard work and competitive thinking. Success is possible only when students decide at an early age what goal they want to reach. There are many opportunities for our children in India and, work should be done to take advantage of them. The jobs needed for the next 20 years are in India and our children should try to get the kind of education they need. When children involve themselves more and more in competitive examinations, it is possible to get a good job with good results. In this regard, students should be prepared for this at an early age as per the new education policy,” he added.

J R Lobo, former MLA speaking on the occasion said, “Students of our community should engage more and more in government services with hard work. It is not correct to say that the government sector is full of corruption, just like a lotus blossoms in the mud and gives its beauty to the society, similarly the students of our community should remove the label of corruption and become an example through their honest service. Parents should try to empower students academically and encourage them to opt for more government services”.

In the programme, the students who secured the highest marks in the SSLC, PUC examinations for the year 2021-22 were honored with cash prizes.

John D'Silva Foundation head Joan D'Silva and Gladys D'Silva, Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh spiritual director W M Ferdinand Gonsalves, spiritual director Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh Robert Menezes, immediate past president Mary’ Dsouza, president Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh Gregory P K D'Souza, secretary Henry Menezes, president Manasa Dr Gerald Pinto, secretary and programme coordinator were present on the occasion.
