45% Americans want US to become a 'Christian Nation'

By Yashwant Raj

Washington, Oct 29 (IANS): More than four in 10 Americans believe the United States should become a 'Christian Nation', according to a new survey by the Pew Research Center, an American think-tank based in Washington.

The survey also found that most Americans -- eight in 10 -- believe the US was founded as a Christian nation.

At the same time, most Americans surveyed by Pew also believe that churches and other houses of worship should stay out of politics and should not endorse election candidates or expound their views on day-to-day social and political issues. In short, keep out of state matters.

"Overall, six in 10 US adults - including nearly seven in 10 Christians - say they believe the founders 'originally intended' for the US to be a Christian nation," the Pew survey report said, adding, "And 45 per cent of US adults - including about six in 10 Christians - say they think the country ashould be a Christian nation. A third say the US 'is now' a Christian nation."

Christian nationalism is defined as an ideology that says that Christianity is the foundation of the United States and the state must protect that relationship. Many believers advocate for the Bible to shape the laws of the land, and take precedence over local laws when in conflict.

Some of former President Donald Trump's closest aides and followers believe in this ideology. Former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn is among them, as is Doug Mastriano, the Republican nominee for the governorship of Pennsylvania, who has been endorsed by Trump.

The Pew survey did not show any uptick in believers in Christian nationalism with comparative data, but Ryan Burge, a political scientist, said that the phrase 'Christian nationalism' figured in more tweets in July 2022 than in the entire 2021 -- 289,000 to around 200,000.

Most worrying perhaps for non-Christian Americans -- including those of Indian heritage, who are mostly of Hindu faith -- supporters and believers of Christian nationalism do not view religious diversity kindly and, in fact, they find the presence of people of other faith detrimental to the purity of America as a Christian nation.

"About a third of US adults who say the US should be a Christian nation (32 per cent) also think the fact that the country is religiously diverse, i.e., made up of people from many different religions as well as people who are not religious, weakens the American society," the survey said, adding, "Those who want the US to be a Christian nation are far more inclined than those who do not want the US to be a Christian nation to express this negative view of religious diversity."

Republican Americans -- such as Trump's aide Flynn and supporter Mastriano -- are seen to be gravitating towards this ideology in larger numbers as compared to Democrats. And, it should be noted, not all Republicans subscribe to this ideology and the party remains apparently committed to diversity.

Christian nationalism has been on the rise in other countries as well, such as Brazil, which its President Jair Bolsonaro has declared as a 'Christian country'.

What does Christian nation mean? Does that mean we brutalize innocent and defenseless people ? Certainly not. It is important to realise that `God` is God of all for He is almighty. It is just that our understanding of God differs from others. God is just even to His enemies. God gives us His commandments and tell us If you obey my commandments I will bless you and if do not obey I will remove all the graces for graces comes only from God .God leaves us exercise our free will which He has given us since we have been created as human beings and not animals. He further tells us that without His graces we cannot sustain against Satan and Truthand graces are given through His Son Jesus Christ. We are called to pray for the leadership who are human beings and vulnerable. Before I humbly suggest a prayer, I would like to give an understanding of Importance of Blood of Christ. UNDERSTANDING BLOOD OF CHRIST(my understanding) Christians know that Christ shed his blood as ransom for forgiveness of sins and protection (Mat 26:28,1Timothy 2:6, Passover(exodus12:7), Mark 10:45). It is important to realize that (Exodus ch 12) Passover was one- time protection. It was carried out on the order of Lord Jesus (Exodus 12:7) who was unseen in the old testament times. Moses commanded the Israelites to worship the Lord as the God of Israel (Deut 26:17) and the Lord was revealed as a human being in the new testament times. (Luke 2:11) However, the Blood shed by Jesus for the forgiveness of sins and protection against Satan is a continuous one. Anyone with a contrite heart can ask for and receive forgiveness of sins and protection through the precious blood of Christ. The prayer (for ourselves and others is as follows) Jesus have mercy on me/them Blood of Christ cleanse me/them Blood of Christ shield me/them Wounds of Christ heal me /them Peace of Christ rule in my heart and Guide me to do Your will in all things This can be used as a petition in Rosary or as a repletion prayer said slowly and silently in mind

All ill effects of Globalism ? Globalism or liberalism has become modern communism. Post fall of Berlin wall communism has spread through out the world. Communist chinese and socialist russians brought covertly liberalism to US, Canada western countries, even Israel through abortion, same sex, now no gender to wipe out western civilisation, culture to become world sole superpower. Temporary other nationalities to strain or weaken, promote mixed culture and bring chaos, race agaist race, religion against religion, wars then total communist controlled new world order with the help of liberal elite, their BigPharma and communist leaning WHO. Looks like that's why communist Covid and monkeypox, wars... to decimate western, eastern, other nationalities and global population using sterilizing as well as slow euthanizing injections after injection. Politicians in power may survive with placebo or saline injections but common man and normal rich is dying everwhere now and then, because of the elite and communist greed of becoming sole superpower, with much depopulation of the world, for their better ruthless control.

‘Tolerance’ is the root foundation of all religions. If tolerance prevails in the country even between the same faith only then the people of all faith enjoy, be happy and prosper that country, otherwise no chance, proved and tested.

Hardly surprising! The values and ideals of the US hail from early Christianity. Not to mention the motto ' E Pluribus Unum' which literally means, In God We Trust. Hardly secular at all, when the country was founded to escape the persecution by the Church of England. I think it's great, go for it. Please send all the Patels, Modi's and Shah's back to aapno Gujarat where they can earn in ruppaiah and support Namo Namo!
