Udupi, Nov 4: “Scientific basis is necessary for any decision. Taking decisions just to show off to the people is incorrect. Identify the cause of children's issues. It is the result of online education. The mobile addiction has come to children because of online education,” said well-known psychologist Dr P V Bhandary.

Reacting to the decision of the government to introduce 10- minute long meditation to children in schools, he asked if there is a scientific basis for it. He said that children have several mental problems and 10 minutes of meditation will not solve them.

“Counsellors should be appointed in schools and there should be awareness among teachers regarding the problems of children. Use of gadgets should be restricted. Do whatever is good for children on the basis of science. Obtain expert opinion and formulate a plan. The minister of education should go to schools and find out if the compulsory recruitment of trained counsellors in the schools is adhered to,” he said.
