Bengaluru, Dec 1: St Joseph’s Institute of Management (SJIM) traces its origins to the late 1960s, when the then undivided St Joseph’s College operated from its Residency Road campus. In 1968, responding to national educational needs and industry demands, the college introduced a postgraduate private diploma in business administration. Rev Dr Francis Xavier Rebello SJ set high academic standards, supported by leading Bengaluru industries such as HMT and ITI, and institutions like the Indian Statistical Institute and the newly founded IIM Bengaluru.
In 1972, the commerce department became St Joseph’s College of Commerce and shifted to Brigade Road, with the management college moving along with it. By 1996, the institute launched its first full-time two-year PGDM programme, led by Fr Ronnie Prabhu, Fr Walter Andrade, Prof Y Muniswamy and Dr T V N Rao.

The institute became independent in 2002 and relocated to 18, Residency Road. During this phase, it introduced new programmes, including a pioneering PG diploma in HRM (2003–04) and evening programmes for working professionals (2007), reaffirming its commitment to evolving management education.
In 2016, SJIM moved to a modern purpose-built campus at Webbs Ground off M G Road, and formally adopted its current name with AICTE approval. The new campus was inaugurated by Archbishop Bernard Moras and former Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid. Featuring two four-storey blocks in the signature Josephite architectural style, the campus offers state-of-the-art facilities and expanded academic spaces.
Today, SJIM hosts around 300 PGDM students per batch and runs multiple AICTE-approved programmes. It is accredited by the NBA, progressing toward AACSB accreditation, and is a member of IAJBS and XAMI. Managed by the Bangalore Jesuit Educational Society (BJES), SJIM remains the only Jesuit business school in Bengaluru and continues to rank among India’s leading management institutes.
