Mangaluru, Dec 2: “In the city, there are several traffic issues. The BJP-led administration at Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has failed to do any good. The public is suffering due to traffic jams in the city. Traffic signal lights are not working, there are no parking spaces and CCTV cameras are not working,” said former MLA JR Lobo.

He was addressing a press meet at Congress Bhavan here on Friday December 2.

He questioned, “The government has ventured into starting a Traffic Command and Control Center by spending crores of rupees. Did the government undertake a detailed study?”

He alleged that the contract has been given to a China-based company.

Lobo also said that the administration should bring before the people what study they have made because they are undertaking all these works from the tax payers’ money. They should release a white paper on this issue, he said.

He also alleged that the MCC commissioner had insulted Congress representative A C Vinayaraj when he raised a question in the general meeting. “Vinayaraj was asked to sit silently. The party severely condemns this. This is not fair in a democratic setup. This is a major blunder. If the Congress comes to power, we will probe all irregularities of what is happening in the name of Smart City project,” he said.
