Udupi: Centre providing all necessary support to sports – union minister Anurag Thakur

Udupi, Dec 25: “The union government is providing all the necessary impetus to sports,” said union minister of sports Anurag Thakur.

He was speaking on Saturday, December 24 after inaugurating the science centre which opened at Ajjarkad Mahatma Gandhi sports grounds held under the auspices of the district administration, district panchayat and the department of youth empowerment and sports.

“There was no package for sports before 2014. A budget of Rs 3,100 crores has been allocated for sports now. The union government has started Khelo India dashboard with all the details of sports grounds and coaching facilities made available to sportspersons,” he said.

State minister of sports Narayana Gowda said that sports grounds are being constructed at panchayat levels as well. “75 sports persons are adopted. Loan facilities are being extended to sportspersons at zero percent interest as a step towards boosting self-employment,” he said.

Union minister Shobha Karandlaje, minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, president of the Mysore electrical industries Udaya Kumar Shetty, Sumitra R Nayak, president of Udupi urban development authority Manohar S Kalmadi. DC Kurma Rao, district panchayat CEO Prasanna, SP Hakay Akshay Machindra, Manipal university’s Dr H S Ballal, Mangaluru university’s registrar Kishore Kumar were present.

Mullai Muhilan M P, commissioner of the department of youth empowerment and sport welcomed. Dr Rina Rwin compered the programme.
