Udupi, Dec 31: The last general body meeting of the year 2022 of the Udupi city municipality council (CMC) ended with repeated discussions held on streetlights, drainage and unresolved problems of the town planning commission.

The annual meet was held in the Sathyamurthi Sabhangana of Udupi CMC on December 31, 2022.

Amrutha Krishnamurthy, Kinnimulky ward member highlighted the issues of streetlights, street dog menace and the problems faced by the public due to the inefficiency of the town planning authority staff. She said, “These issues are repeatedly being discussed from past many meetings and no solution has been taken for these problems yet. Udupi city administration is getting a bad name due to the town planning problems.”

All the members supported Amrutha Krishnamurthy regarding the issues faced by public due to town planning authority. Prabhakar Poojary, member of Gundibail ward said, “Town planning authority commissioner had been called to attend today’s meeting, but they have been absent to answer many such queries. They are not attending any meetings of CMC even though people are suffering due to their negligence. The town planning authority staff also behave quite rudely. Even after paying the necessary amount as prescribed by the government the work gets delayed at the town planning authority level. A file to build a compound wall has been pending in the authority for the past 9 months.”

Interrupting the discussions, Raghupati Bhat, MLA Udupi, directed the CMC commissioner to report the matter to district commissioner for taking suitable action against town planning authority commissioner for not attending the meetings.

A training programme for building soak pits in the city municipality limits was held for the members.

Joseph GM Rebello was honoured and recognised as ‘Swacchata Rayabari’.

Sumithra Nayak, president presided over the meeting, Laxmi Manjunath Kola, vice-president Dr Udaykumar Shetty, commissioner and members of various wards and officials were present.
