Bangalore to Lose the IT capital Tag: survey

Bangalore, Jun 1 (Express News): Bangalore, that boasted its tag of the country's IT capital, may now lose it, according to a survey.

A survey undertaken by Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham), warning of this imminent threat, says the status would soon belong to the National Capital Region (NCR) of Noida and Gurgaon as more companies have expressed their interest in setting up shop there.

This would include IT, IT-enabled services (ITes), business process outsourcing (BPO), knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) and other areas of operations.

According to the report, the agency cited that "crumbling infrastructure" is one of the main causes for this trend. It has also said that companies are moving towards more "convenient and industrial-friendly centres".

Justifying their findings, Assocham secretary general DS Rawat said, "The growth explosion in Bangalore has pushed the city towards serious civic issues." He further attributed the problems to power shortages, inadequate and unreliable water supply, heavy traffic, roads and also poor sanitation facilities.

Identifying these issues as the main problems, he further states that Gurgaon and Noida have, on the contrary, been growing rapidly against and increasing their odds.

The forum stated that they interacted with around 800 CEOs, CFOs and managing directors of both Indian and multinational companies.

The forum stated that the survey was conducted in five cities where they saw the best advantage to operate from. Assocham claims that nearly 30 per cent evinced interest in moving to Gurgaon, while another 25 per cent were willing to move to Noida. About 20 per cent wished to shift to Chandigarh, 15 per cent to Pune and 10 per cent to Hyderabad, their report stated.

"Gurgaon's cosmopolitan culture, modern infrastructure, availability of skilled workforce and closeness to Delhi, along with industry-friendly government policies are the factors which give it an edge over Bangalore city," Rawat said.

All the cities of India have failed
    in "advance planning". As
MR. DURGADAS SUVARANA has indicated, the city of Bangalore has a good
    reputation with great climate.
So, many of the foreign companies showed greater interest
    to establish their center of
    operation there. But, if the
    city is congested with various
problems in crime, lack of other
    facilities etc, then the companies
    will gradually shift to other
    developing cities. Since the
    Karnataka politics was totally
messed up, the city of Bangalore
might have lost its charm and
    attraction to the companies.

It is well known that both Infy and Wipro are building their biggest IT centers in Pune, which city is much better planned providing all the advantages of Bangalore and more. Pune has just converted into a big automobile and engineering hub where the whos who have set up mfg facilities, along with them so many vendor suppliers thus giving family's the advantage of finding jobs in other than IT cos too plus the salubrious climate, lesser pollution, congestion, political stability, and its proximity to the financial capital, Mumbai!

It is because of the thriving selfishness of the politicians and bureaucrats. After all who cares for human value other than making money at any cost (even at their own funeral). To hell with infrastructure and basic needs!

Another piece of recent good news for the country that we are almost last in rank among 153 countries being Peaceful Nation. With all the kind of intolerance, criminality, hatred what better can we expect! Wondering if they are the signs of becoming a super power? I think "duper" power, instead.

Brother Rahul M C, Mangalore i have worked in Hyderabad also for two years. Even many companies have their base there, but if we look into weather conditions, Bangalore weather is good and that's the reason many companies would usually prefer Bangalore than other cities. Infrastructure wise also bangalore is better when campare to Hyderabad. As Mr Varun, Bangalore/Mlore said please visit bangalore once before commenting.

Please do not make any city capital of anything. Industies should be wide spread. People from all the corners of the country should get employment oppotunities. Successive governments of Karnatka have deveoped only Bangalore and other parts of the state are neglected. Bring IT to two tier cities of Karnataka. There is no dearth of talents in other parts of the state.

It is not fair to develop only Bangalore at tax payers money. Build intfrastructure in other cities too. Let them enjoy better standard of living.

These kinds of numerous surveys have come and gone. But nothing has changed the Bangalore position as IT capitol. Bangalor is still the highest exporter of IT and ITes compared to other cities of India. Chennai is in second place follwed by Hyderbad. Other cities are far behind. SMK and BSY government's contributions are mainly taken Bangalore way ahead. So anti BJP camps, dont celebrate. Its just another survey which meets the similar fate as other surveys.

We cannot blame Yeddy for the poor infrastructure. Infrastructure is under development. There will be always traffic disruptions during mega projects like metro rail and flyovers. Once these projects are comsissioned things may change. Even otherwise we cannot blame BJP for every problem in Karnataka.

The pressure on Mumbai had created social tensions and Bangalore too is on the verge of loosing its original charm due to excessive migration of people for economic reasons.
Loosing IT Capital tag to NCR does not mean companies reducing manpower in Bangalore but it just mean the future expansion to be carried out elsewhere still it is within our country which is good.

This is all hoax.In no other city of India, you will find skilled resources, nice climate, good airport and so many IT educational institutions which together constiture towards becoming a top IT city which is Bangalore.Infact, the present govt has improved the roads and if you come to Blore and look at the way underpasses and metro work which is going on in 24X7 pace. This is all due to the current govt.Mr Krishna has started it and in between 2 govts of Dharam Singh and HDK spoilt it.

Now, before commenting on it,please visit blore once. IT infrastructure has developed so much. Today, you can view live traffic situation in 50 signal spots and google will soon have Blore's streets covered in streetview.More people are opting for buses now due to plenty of BMTC's Volvos. All this wouldnt have taken place unless the current govt was not there.

Blessing in disguise!! I have seen Bangalore is being ruined by people who throng to the city with the pretext of jobs and business but care a damn about the city, we Kannadigas will be better off if most IT companies move from Bangalore along with their so called IT clerks, I will be able to travel and drive with ease and will be be able to converse in Kannada on the roads, currently I am lost in my own city and hopefully all prices alos will come down, I love my 'Namma Bengaluru', it's a great city second to none in India.

Very sad to notice such development. For the past 5 years government is only bothered to garner as much as wealth possible rather than development of the city. This is what happens when unfit, inexperienced, direction/vision less persons occupy the high position. Problem with Yeddy is almost all his life was in opposition and now though in ruling chair, still mind set is negetive and that of opposition leader. Look at the tragedy of the state and the state capital. Is this the contribution for the future generation and the young minds who work all the night in BPOs and contribute to development of the state by paying highest taxes in which state gets highest share. The shit Nagesh will not understand the larger impact. Better trash his views

No wonder about the news. It was waiting to happen.
    Crumbling infrastructure,
    power shortages,
    inadequate & unreliable water supply,
    heavy traffic,
    inadequate & ill maintained roads,
    poor sanitation facilities,
    saturation of population.
The list is endless and the measures taken to combat this is mediocre.
No second rung cities like Mangalore, Mysore, Belgaum, Hubli etc are developed. Hence there is no Balanced Regional Development.
It is a good news that Noida, Pune etc are coming up leading to Balanced Regional Development in the country thus indirectly preserving the ecological balance in Bangalore.
Being at the mercy of corrupt politicians and bureaucrats who are busy saving thier seats, this is what we can expect for.
Hope this goes as a good lesson to all the concerned. By the way we must acknowledged we are no way close to European countries and USA in terms of Information technlogy. Truth is sad and bitter but it is the fact we need to digest before we boast and take credit over all the glamour of the media. We cannot boast of a single company which has developed its own operating system. That explains the story......
