Moscow, June 11 (IANS/RIA Novosti) More than 90,000 people remain in evacuation centres three months after Japan's devastating March 11 quake and tsunami disaster, public broadcaster NHK said Saturday.

About 28,000 temporary homes for evacuees have been built, a little more than half the 52,000 that the government plans to set up. But many evacuees have declined to move in because they were concerned about insufficient support services compared to those at the shelters.

The toll from the magnitude-9 earthquake and ensuing tsunami reached 15,405, while 8,095 people are listed as missing, the National Police Agency said Saturday.

Bills to finance the reconstruction and recovery process are being held hostage by the conservative opposition, which demands that Prime Minister Naoto Kan step down first, accusing him of unsatisfactory handling of the post-quake crisis.

On March 27, Japan's National Policy Agency said about 245,000 people were evacuated to some 2,000 emergency shelters.
