CM calls for scientific, sustainable mining to check mindless exploitation

Bengaluru, Feb 18: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who participated in the 15 th International Granite and Stone Exhibition, Stona-2023-25, and called upon the industry to devise ways and means for scientific and sustainable mining.

The Chief Minister complimented the Federation of Indian Granite and Stone Industry for organising the Stona 2023-25 fair in Bengaluru and underscored the need for the industry to deliberate and devise strategies and processes for scientific mining using modern technology and thereby eliminate the environmental pollution and degradation. He said the government policies are being simplified and stressed the need for transparency in the entire licensing process so as to prevent unnecessary harassment of the industry.

Countries like Italy have seen technological advancement in the mining industry to preserve and prevent degradation of the limited resources of granite and stone, he said. Bommai said Karnataka follows its own distinct mining policy that is different from those of Rajasthan or Gujarat states and pointed out that the State has its own concerns and priorities.

Sustainable mining will eliminate mindless exploitation of natural resources which will benefit all the stakeholders, he said.

Mining and Geology Minster Halappa Achar, Federation President Ishindar Singh, Secretary Krishna Prasad and others were present.v
