Bangalore, Jun 29: In a heart-rending incident that occurred at Nelamangala near here, a second standard student died on Tuesday June 28, as a result of trying to emulate hanging.

Usha, working in the Akshara Dasoha scheme in the school, had committed suicide by hanging herself, due to family problems on Sunday. The school children had been led to her home to have a last glimpse of their cook on Monday. After the children came back, Kartik (8), a second standard student of Adepete government higher primary school in Nelamangala, tried to enact suicide by hanging. He used his belt to make a noose around his neck and attached it to the window of the school.

Kartik, who became unconscious, was taken to a private hospital. The doctors reportedly told the teachers and parents that the boy was having difficulty in breathing and that he was not facing any threat to his life. The student breathed his last on Tuesday at the hospital.

The policemen feel that the incidents, in which the boy’s uncle had recently committed suicide by hanging himself, and Usha’s suicide, had left a lasting imprint on the boy’s mind.

A teacher of the school, Lakshmidevamma, suffered heart attack after coming to know that the student had died. She was shifted to a hospital in Bangalore for treatment.
