Dharma Jyothi Social Centre conducts disaster awareness, social work orientation programmes

Mangaluru, Oct 9: Disaster management was organized on October 7 at St Raymond’s High School, Vamanjoor, jointly by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, Vamanjoor, and the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore.

Deekshita, the resource person for the programme, explained the precautionary measures to be taken during natural disasters and discussed ways to prevent and manage human-made disasters. The programme was reviewed by Renita Lewis from Dharma Jyothi Social Centre. A total of 56 high school students, one teacher, and BSW students participated in the programme.

Orientation programme

An orientation programme was organized on October 8th for the social work students who are assigned under Dharma Jyothi Social Centre for their practical exposure; Prof Joslin Lobo, the resource person, explained the importance of community visits, effective interaction with community members, and methods of conducting fieldwork. He also guided the students on how to write fieldwork reports effectively. The director, Sr Veera Monis, and Renita were also present.

A total number of 20 social work students from various colleges participated and benefited from the programme. The session was informative and helpful in preparing students for their fieldwork.
