Kasargod, Jun 29: In a strange incident that occurred in Koyattatti in Keenanoor-Karindalam near Hosadurg, a person handed over his wife to his friend, in repayment of a loan of Rs 15,000 raised by him. Prasad (29), a local resident, was arrested for entrusting his wife to his friend. He was remanded on Tuesday June 28, to 14 days judicial custody.

Prasad from Koyatatti had married a girl from Chayyangod. He is a rubber tapper by profession, and a habitual drunkard. He had borrowed Rs 15,000  four years ago from Manoj, his friend, who used to visit him often and gave company during his drinking bouts.

Having failed in his efforts to repay the loan, Prasad mooted the idea of pawning his own wife with Manoj as security for the money he owed to his friend. In January this year, he gave away his wife to Manjoj.

The woman complained to the court of the first class magistrate in Hosadurg in this respect. She said in her complaint that Manoj had been raping her repeatedly, after she was entrusted to him The court directed the police to register the case and conduct investigation. The policemen arrested Prasad on Monday. Manoj has absconded. Hosadurg deputy superintendent of police, Jossy Cherian, said that they had tracked the movement of Manoj through his mobile, but that by the time they reached Kollam to arrest him, he had escaped from there.
