Mangalore: CAMPCO Launches Arecanut Soap

Mangalore, Jun 30: CAMPCO launched a soap made from arecanut ‘Pooga Singar Deodorant Beauty Soap here on Wednesday June 29.

Speaking on the occasion, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that the soap, one of the value additions of arecanut will push the price of arecanut upwards.

Badanaje Shankar Bhat, who indigenously developed the soap, said that arecanut was limited only to chewing.  Meanwhile, owing to research work, a number of derivates like lipstick, tea powder, soft drinks, ink among others are being possible to produce.

‘With more and more value additions to arecanut, it will have a good market in the future,’ said Shankar Bhat.

Zilla panchayat president Shailaja K T Bhat said such experiments will attract the rural youth towards areca plantation because of profitability.

CAMPCO president Konkodi Padmanabha Bhat and others were present.
