Patna, Jul 3 (IANS): Eleven villagers abducted by Maoists from Bihar's Munger district were released by the rebels after a day, police said Sunday.
The villagers from Bangalwa Kareli village returned home early Sunday after they were freed by Maoists, Munger Superintendent of Police P. Kanan said.
They were abducted early Saturday by around 50 armed Maoists who stormed into their village, about 200 km from Patna, a police officer said.
In the shooting, five people, including two special police officers, were killed on the spot while one sustained injuries and died later, a police officer said.
State police and central paramilitary forces launched combing operations in the area.
Munger is considered to be a Maoist stronghold.
