Mangalore, Jul 4: Large number of sports enthusiasts actively took part in the ‘kesaru gadde pandyata’ (games on slushy paddy field) which was organized at Pavanje, here.

The unique two-day competition was organized by Tulunada Kesarugadde Kreedotsava Samiti on Saturday July 2 and Sunday July 3.

The contestants ran, fell and played on slush with ecstasy. The purpose of organizing such events is to create awareness about agriculture and sports associated with it.

10 teams from primary schools, 15 teams from high schools and six teams from pre-university colleges participated in the competitions on Saturday.

Men in teams participated in forward and backward running races, tug of war, throw ball and other competitions. The running races and splashing of slush attracted a large gathering as the people passing through the highway stopped their vehicles and watched the contestants’ play.

Speaking to Daijiworld Sathish Bhat, the president of organizing committee said that the competition was conducted at the district level this year where as last year it was held at the taluk level. There was very good response from the public and colleges but unfortunately there was poor response from the Government schools though the organizers had made all the required facilities for their travel and other needs, he added.

Unfortunately, the days of such happiness and natural enjoyment will come to an end with everyone going the "modern" way - multistoried buildings, laptops, mobiles .. No time or interest in anything else.

Tulunada Kesarugadde Kreedotsava Samiti THANKS for your good work. Location u selected too good. Please arrange the program during KANIDIGE AAYANA, or Pavanje jatre One of famous tulunadu feast. Please make arrangement, to catch fish in kandige river,( do not allow to fish during September to kandige aayana. Because only this place suitable to fish, less water and safe , time, and convenient to all. People rush to catch fish, and believe as it is Prasadam ( at least eat small fish)
Secondly why our horticulture not taken part in this programme… Probably they will come to put laws , fine, and harass. Who will Gardening in the city, Enthusiastic youths are there . Probably this is the proper time to make gardens and beautiful road with green ….
Where is other agriculture department. Why are they? What is there work anyone comment?

Thank you dear Ramesh Pandit for the beautiful photographs! Congrats to Mr.Sathish Bhat and organizers of the event. Extremely happy to see the photographs of Pavanje, which is the part of my village Haleangadi. Pavanje is known for it's natural beauty. Back water river, green fields, contributed to it's beauty. The Hill-Top Mahalingeshwara Temple is unique of its kind in whole Karnataka. Hope many more such events will be organized in Pavanje.

Shri Sathish Bhat, do not get discouraged because of the non participation from government schools. Organising 31 teams for two days is not an easy task. My heariest congratulations to you. Keep it up! I am sure, next year you will have still better support from the people.

I have travelled for about 6 years on NH17 (Udupi-Mangalore) and one place that fascinated me is Pavanje. While coming from Udupi, the fields just after Haleangadi till Pavanje bridge are simply marvellous. This place has still maintained the look of yester years. I request the people of Pavanje to maintain this natural treasure for the future. In this line, I highly appreciate this new concept of 'kesaru gadde pandyata' and stay one with the nature and seasons. I luved the news, keep it up.
