Daijiworld Weekly Editor Hemacharya Urges Media to Reform Thinking of Citizens

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (RD/CN)

Mangalore, Jul 5: "Chaos is being created in society by the media today. It is time for the journalists to reform the thinking of people for the betterment of society," said Hemacharya, editor-in-chief, Daijiworld Weekly.

He was speaking after inaugurating the convention of representatives of ‘Amcho Sandesh’ Konkani monthly bulletin of Mangalore diocesan Catholic Sabha during the function held at the auditorium at Bishop’s House here on Sunday July 3.

"Now, the media has been giving undue importance to political uproars, communal violence, and crime.  It has led to the readers craving for such news. Sensitive and enlightened journalists have great responsibilities to reform the readers in order to create social harmony," stressed Hemacharya.

Walter Cyril Pinto, entrepreneur and president of Catholic Sabha – Central Committee, said that ‘Amcho Sandesh’, Konkani bulletin of Mangalore diocesan Catholic Sabha, lays emphasis on creating awareness and providing information, thereby striving for societal progress.  "The united efforts of the editorial department and its media representatives indeed will take a lead in this regard," he said.

Pinto felicitated Fr Vincent Monteiro who retired as spiritual director of Catholic Sabha Central Committee on the same occasion.

Konkani veteran columnist and short story writer Edy Netto spoke on excellence in reporting, while Amcho Sandesh sub-editor Wilfred Lobo spoke on ‘Art of Reporting at the Convention’.

Amcho Sandesh editor George Ligoury D’Souza said that the bulletin has wide circulation among the Konkani speaking-community.  "He urged the media representatives to increase the readership in their respective localities," urged George Ligoury D’Souza.

Circulation manager Professor F M J Crasta and advertising manager Joachim D’Costa provided information about their respective departments on the occasion.

Arun Ajekar, editor of www.amchosandesh.com, compered the programme.

Journalists are dutybound to reform this chaotic society created by them. Best way is keep the readers in dark. Henceforth they should create stories based around holy scriptures only. Don't tell them about this bad bad bad world. Report activities of our good babas, mullahs and pastors only.

Well said Mr. Hemacharya. You are so very right that, most media coverage by journalists these days, publish sensational news. These news vary from political drama ( which is never ending .!!) or other crimes etc. Entire thinking, reasoning and publishing has to be reformed. While you do cover these stories, try and give importance to other issues like, civic sense, citizens responsibilties, educational information etc. Let the media try and help bring peace and harmony among public and society rather than anxiety and fear, by blowing news out of propertion. With due respect to all journalists, I plead that we think of changing idea about Journalism.

That is a great news. We read
too many negative news items every
day which can lead us to mild
    depression and hopelessness. What
we hear and see every day can
    create greater changes in our
mindset and convictions in the long run whether
    it is inspiring or disappointing.

    The mental impact after reading
the news of a murder or rape
in the morning will be very
    disheartening on the other hand,
if we read the story of an
    humanitarian's self-sacrifice to
make other people happy, that will
    generate happiness in us. Even
though we are all advancing in
the material side, there are more
    people with mental anguish and
despondency of life today in their
    hearts and families.

    MR. HEMACHARYA, YOUR IDEA IS
    DIVINELY INSPIRED AND THE
    READERSHIP OF DAIJIWORLD IS GOING
TO EXPLODE WITH THIS NEW STEP AND
    DIRECTION. MAY GOD BLESS YOU.
