Bellary: Fort Roof Crumbles - DC Feels Heat of Party Politics

Daijiworld Media Network – Bellary (SP)

Bellary, Jul 7: The roof and stone beams of the eastside entrance to the historical fort here crumbled because of heavy rain on the night of Tuesday July 5. This incident too became a scoring point for the warring politicians of the district, with the deputy commissioner (DC) of the district at the receiving end.

Congress and BJP leaders were involved in accusing each other relating to this incident. Raichur MP, Sanna Fakeerappa, got involved with verbal duel with the DC in singular.

The DC in question, Amlan Aditya Biswas, visited the spot on Wednesday and was discussing the issue of clearing the debris with the officials, when former minister and Congress leader, Divakar Babu, arrived at the spot with his supporters. He started heaping allegations on the BJP and district administration for their failure. Arrival of local MLA, Somashekhar Reddy, on the spot, gave rise to a verbal duel between the two. While Divakar Babu alleged that the fort’s entrance had been demolished purposefully, Somashekhar Reddy dismissed the charge, and decried attempts to politicise an incident created because of rain.

The DC, who was hearing the arguments, intervened to provide actual details of what had happened. The atmosphere was already hot, as Raichur MP, Sanna Fakeerappa, had joined Somashekhar Reddy in deriding Divakar Babu by then. While Babu continued to insist that collapse of the entrance door because of light rain for half an hour was impossible.

When Sanna Fakeerappa accused the DC and district administration of failing to  protect the entrance to the fort and that the DC had failed to properly gauge his stature and importance, Biswas retorted by saying that he was aware of his responsibilities and that he does not need to be educated about his duties and responsibilities by others.
