Kundapur: Temple Burgled – Cash, Valuables, Stolen

Kundapur, Jul 8: Silver items, gold ornaments, and cash were found to have been stolen from Maroor Goddess Durgaparameshwari Temple in Hengavalli village in the taluk on the night of Wednesday July 6.

The temple management has estimated the value of ornaments stolen at Rs 1.20 lac, and cash at Rs 5,000. The thieves entered the temple by breaking open the front door lock. They took away a silver aureole fitted to the wooden pedestal of the deity, weighing about 500 grams, apart from golden Karimani, a pair of ear lobes, Karmani found on the Panchaloha idol of the goddess, golden necklace, diamond ear rings, Saligram stones etc. A part of the collection in the donation box in front of the temple was also taken away by them.

The thieves also entered the generator room of the temple by breaking open its door, and sifted through the alimirah kept therein. On a complaint filed by Srinivas Bairy, a complaint was registered in Shankaranarayana police station.
