Mangalore: KMC Hospital Launches Manipal Arogya Card Scheme 2011

Mangalore, Jul 9: The 2011 edition of Manipal Arogya Card, which is in its 11th year of inception, was launched on Friday July 8 in the city. The card, an annual scheme of Manipal University, is backed by social initiative of the university towards quality health care at affordable prices to the card holders. The membership of the card will be open from June 11, 2011 to July 31, 2011.

The holders of the card will be eligible for a slew of discounts in hospitals under Manipal Health Enterprises. Membership fee of the card has been fixed at Rs 250 for an individual and Rs 500 for the entire family. Application forms for the card are available at all networked hospitals under Manipal Health Enterprises and Syndicate Bank branches in Udupi, Mangalore, Shimoga, Uttara Kannada, Davangere, Chitradurga, Chikmagalur, Kodagu districts of Karnataka, apart from Kannur and Kasargod districts in Kerala.

Dr Madhusudan Uppadhya, deputy medical superintendent, KMC Hospital, Attavar, welcomed. Dr Anand Venugopal, deputy medical superintendent, KMC Hospital, Ambedkar Circle, briefed the gathering about benefits of the scheme. The discounts range from ten to 25 percent on various services, including inpatient and out patient charges,  and medicines purchased from pharmacy will also be sold at a discount of ten percent, Venugopal explained.

    Fernandes F, that is one way of making business from the mangament side, at the same time staff at the counters have another way of making money. When you go there to register and pay money for any tests you will have to pay certain amount. When you pay billing clerk he/she will tell you go and have your tests done, we'll give you remaining balance later.

    As a patient every one will be tense and worried about their illness, so naturally most people will forget to go back to counter and collect remaining balance. This happened to me thrice at KMC Balmattta road, once at medical store and twice at billing counter, that is Rs 10 Rs (Med Store). 40 and Rs 35. Every one is trying to cheat

    If KMC really wants to help poor,downtrodden and economically weak segments of the people the arogya card should be given free of cost as suggested by one of daijiworld commentators.This gesture is possible and affordable to KMC.Many poor patients are dying daily due to lack of money for their respective treatments.This kind of initiative by KMC is highly appreciable provided they implement and consider in the best interest of poor people.Even there are so many kidney patients who are paying exorbitant amount for their dialysis may be thrice or twice in a week.

    This is really expensive for poor,middle income and downtrodden people.Hope KMC will come out with some innovative/attractive schemes which will benefit poor people.jai ho KMC.May God bestow them good mind and heart to help the poor people of this earth.

    The Arogya card should be free . There is dual purpose of this card I belive.
    1. The card is charged Rs 250 and for family RS 500. If say 25,000 get card then the total amount collected is huge amount.
    2. The KMC required more patients in/out patients fir theier mediacly students to get Praticle Experience on patients.
    If really you have helping the Poor then charge a minimum of RS 10 is reasonable as the person having card is anyway charged with discount after getting treatments.
