Eicher Motors to Expand Two-wheeler Production


Chennai, Jul 12 (IANS): Commercial vehicles and two-wheeler manufacturing company Eicher Motors Ltd has decided to triple its motorcycle production capacity near here at an outlay of Rs.350 crore.

In a statement issued by the Tamil Nadu government here Tuesday, the company has been allotted 50 acres at Oragadam near here.

The company plans to increase the production capacity to 150,000 units. Royal Enfield - the two wheeler division of Eicher Motors - currently has a production capacity of 50,000 units at its plant in Tiruvottiyur near Chennai.

The land allotment letter was handed over by Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa to Siddharta Lal, managing director and CEO of the company.

The two-wheeler unit is one of the oldest automotive plants in Tamil Nadu functioning since 1955.
