Guruvayanakere-Belthangady Road in Miserable Condition, Commuters at Risk

Guruvayanakere-Belthangady Road in Miserable Condition, Commuters at Risk

By Vijaya Raj, Beltangady

Beltangady, Jul 18: Mangalore-Kadur National Highway-73 which passes through Guruvayanakere-Belthangady had developed several cracks which were temporarily repaired by the authorities concerned, but it turned out to be nothing but an eyewash.

This road has now developed more cracks and has made way for major mishaps.

The monsoon season is at its peak and the condition of the road has already turned worse due to the poor quality of repair work.

As there are many educational institutions situated in Ujire, a number of students and other commuters take this route and are bound to face dangers.

Most of the cultivators travel via this route to communicate to the taluk headquarters and the dilapidated condition of the road has become a nightmare to many.

Over a lac pilgrims come from all over India and abroad every month to Dharmasthala via Mangalore airport/port and railway station and pass through this stretch.

The Bantwal-Belthangady road has not been widened for half a century, and in between an effort was made to completely wipe out the pedestrian pathway and drainage to widen the road in Guruvayankere a bit, due to which rain water gushes on to the road, and pedestrians are at a high risk of becoming victims of accidents from the speeding vehicles.

Guruvayankere is the hub of six state highways that lead to Karkala, Moodbidri, Puttur, Bantwal and towards Kadur/Chickmaglur etc. Having been declared as National Highway-73, why is this stretch neglected by political heavyweights who often pass through it and see the poor condition of the road everywhere? More importantly, our chief minister and opposition party leaders and many ministers visited Dharmastala through the same route recently and have had first-hand experience on this road, but it is surprising that they overlook these matters, which is very much disheartening!

The commuters urge the government to look into this issue seriously and take necessary action immediately.

@Mr. Vinay, Mr. Nagesh, Mr. Raju.
We also offer money to Churches but this money is invested in HUMANTIY.
We are not into CONVERSIONS but if you wish to know?
Check out with RSS, Hare Rama Hare Krishna and AMMA.
You are right. 100’s of crores are colleted at these temples but are you aware what happens to this money?
Puttaparthi: Rs.11 crores found in Yajur Mandir. If the money was legitimate why it was not deposited in Banks? Authorities found huge amounts of cash being transported to various destinations across India.
Padmanabhaswamy: T.P.Sunderarajan, a 1964 batch Indian Police Service officer, had approached the apex court citing that the temple affairs were being mismanaged and wanted to protect the temple’s wealth from greedy trustees. As a reward he received death threats from the trustees.
Tirupati: Vigilance report has pointed to several irregularities in the trust's affairs. This includes the alleged replacing of jewellery donated by devotees with fakes.
Shabarimal: Makara Jyothi – Fake flame to confound the devotees and rake in crores.
Would any like your hard earned money to follow this route?

For the present There may not be a political solution to Buntwal - Belthangadi Road, atleast for next two more years or atleast till a Central or State Election is near by.

However, as expressed in many of the comments here, I wish daijiworld to assist our Belthangadi people by refering this article to our most respected Shri. D. Veerendra Heggde - Dharmadikary of Dharmastala, and I am sure his one phone call to DR. Singh or Mr. BSY will immediately resolve our problem, and soon we can see the long pending widening work of this stretch will be implemented.

Raju,Mangalore,If you can comment like this, then why dont you ask temples to make schools and hospitals. The churches made hospitals and many were born there and many were educated in church schools. Its shame on the majority community that millions of people visit temples and many don't come home only due to bad roads. The question is why dont you people call strikes and dharna and force the government to widen the roads. Why dont make a forum or create party to Build roads and temples and educate the people. To conclude I say there is unity among Hindu's.

Dear Mr Shiv, authorities who you are referring are useless. Do you think PWD (under state) is better?. This stretch till last year was under State, what good that we saw under them?. Yes, let us not devide our opinion on Centre/State, we have to hold our elected parlimentarians who hold discretionery funds in crores for disbursement on such issues.

Me. Shiv, central Government at Delhi need to be reported by state Government on these issues as Guruvayankere is a cross road for multiple state Highways. As regard to NAHI, it works in its own timings, but our MP who is surely aware of this issue should repressent in the Parliment and seek budgetory allocations for the road widening works.

You and me well know that Central Government will not be sitting at Guruvayanakere and watching the road condition. The sitting MLA from Congress though has a better chance to bring up this issue in the centre where his own party is ruling, he looks not interested. As regard to our beloved MP representing your Central Govt. who is from BJP, hardly seen in Belthangadi as he may be feeling tired to travel from Mangalore to Belthangadi through the bad roads !!!. Now which Centre Govt has to come to our rescue?

Even if this is so, why we are not able to attract the Government in spending money on our roads. A dramatic change on papers by declaring as National Highway isn't enough, the vote seeking politicians (MLA/MP) from our Taluk need to be pulled to their job mercilessly.

For the past many years we are hearing Buntwal to Belthangadi Road will be widened. There are routine surevys taking place in alternative month. Some marking stones also placed by the side of the road. All these activities created a hinderance for the developers to buy road side lands. Even many roadside houses now a days turned to bad shape, as the house owners donot want to spend and loose thier houses during road widening. There are many roumers of widening and everybody doesn't know when it will be!.

Buntwal to Belthangadi stretch was included for widening in the world bank supported state project called KSHIP-II, and in 2008 all survey stones are placed every where. Unfortunately, in February 2009 Central Government dclared this stretch as National Highway, and resultantly the proposed wideing by the state government was ped and the responsibility was shifted to the central government. Now we have to see how long the NAHI will take acquire the records from PWD and then make a estimation, and then it reach to Central Ministry, and then allocate necessary funds in the budget!.

We commuters have to face the risk till then!

Not to blame any political party in personal, but atleast if they try to utilise 25% of the money to reconstruct the road facilities..could have been a wonderful task and more safer. The heavy trucks which are overloaded need to be peanlised severly for this kind of destruction and need better engineers in PWD who can think in advance

Part of this road between "Punjalkatte" to "Kuvettu" has not been asphalted for 3 years except some patch work in between !!!. Recently our "haali" and "maaji" CM's visted Dharmasthala. I don't know whether they made "Anne" or "Saane" there. But, it could have been better if they had shown little concern towards the fate of these roads when they travel in luxury cars at the mercy of tax payers money. They need not pay from their pocket. Use only road tax collected from vehicle owners. We do not expect any charity from politicians either !!!

Also, see the roads between "Madanthyar & Uppinangady" and "Guruvayankere & Uppinangady". You can vouch for governments performance there !!! I have no idea what our name sake MP, MLA & District In Charge ministers are doing especially when they visit Dharmasthala several times.
