Mangaluru: Cybersecurity Club inaugurated at Alva's Institute of Engineering and Technology

Media Release

Mangaluru, Jun 13: Alva's Institute of Engineering and Technology recently held the much-anticipated inauguration of its Cybersecurity Club, marking a significant milestone in the institute's commitment to fostering digital security awareness and skills among its students. The event was graced by esteemed individuals from the field, including staff coordinator Dr Anoop Arun (CSE department), student coordinator K R Vivek, senior risk advisor Shahid Ahmed, and security analyst Chirag Suvarna from Cybersapiens.

During the inauguration, students were treated to an enlightening talk on career guidance in the field of cybersecurity, along with essential updates on current security threats. The session aimed to equip students with the knowledge necessary to navigate the vast array of opportunities available in this rapidly evolving industry.

One of the key highlights of the event was the introduction of Bug Bounty programs. Students were introduced to the concept of bug bounties and how they could potentially forge a rewarding career or pursue it as a newfound hobby. Bug bounty programs offer individuals the chance to identify vulnerabilities in software systems and report them to the concerned organizations in exchange for financial rewards. By showcasing the potential of bug bounty programs, the session inspired students to harness their skills and contribute to the cybersecurity ecosystem.

To provide practical insights into the subject matter, Chirag Suvarna, took charge of the hands-on session. Chirag delved into the intricacies of different vulnerabilities, demonstrating how they can be identified and exploited by hackers. Through live demonstrations and interactive exercises, students gained invaluable exposure to the real-world techniques used by cybersecurity professionals to safeguard systems and mitigate risks.

The inauguration of Alva's Institute of Engineering and Technology's Cybersecurity Club served as a platform for students to engage with industry experts and gain valuable insights into the ever-evolving field of cybersecurity. The event fostered a spirit of curiosity and encouraged students to explore cybersecurity as a potential career path or an area of personal interest.

By proactively organizing events of this nature, Alva's Institute of Engineering and Technology continues to demonstrate its dedication to nurturing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. The institute's commitment to cybersecurity education and awareness is a testament to its vision of producing skilled individuals capable of addressing the challenges posed by the digital age.

As the cybersecurity landscape evolves, initiatives like these become increasingly essential in equipping students with the necessary knowledge and skills to protect themselves and contribute positively to the digital realm. The Cybersecurity Club inauguration at Alva's Institute of Engineering and Technology represents a commendable step towards a more secure and resilient future.

There was another interesting workshop on cybersecurity and ethical hacking conducted by Cybersapiens at Bapuji Institute of Engineering and Technology in Davanagere. The workshop was led by Chandrashekar M V as the coordinator, along with Naseer R (assistant professor), Dr Nirmala C R (hod), security analyst Chirag Suvarna (Cybersapiens), and Abdul Rameez (security analyst).

During the workshop, various concepts related to cybersecurity were covered. The participants were introduced to Cybersapiens and its services. They also received an introduction to Linux and Red Hat, learned about vulnerabilities and the CIA triad (Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability), explored networking using the Cisco Packet Tracer tool, delved into topics like Cryptography, Steganography, Android hacking, sniffing, man-in-the-middle attacks, and social engineering attacks.

The CIA triad is crucial for securing data. It involves ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data. Based on these principles, organizations and individuals determine how to protect their data and maintain data privacy.

The workshop also included practical sessions, such as cryptography, which helps secure data by implementing mechanisms that prevent unauthorized access or interception by attackers.

Sniffing attacks involve unauthorized individuals gaining access to a network that is shared by multiple parties. In social engineering attacks, hackers typically use phishing links to trick people into revealing sensitive information when they click on those links. Man-in-the-middle attacks are similar, as they involve intercepting and manipulating communication between two parties using proxy-based techniques.

On the second day of the workshop, the focus shifted to bug hunting, career guidance, and different testing methodologies. Bug hunting refers to the process of finding vulnerabilities or weaknesses in software or systems, often with the intention of improving security.

Overall, the workshop covered a wide range of topics and provided valuable insights into cybersecurity, ethical hacking, and related fields
