Kundapur, Jun 14: Members of the Udupi district Koraga community organisations and Karnataka Adivasi Rights Coordination Committee are going on an indefinite stir dharna in front of Panchayat office on June 14, according to the convenor of the committee Sridhar Naada.

The members are demanding the implementation of the Mohammed Peer committee report recommendations.

As per the report, each of the 40 Koraga families under the Naada GP limits should get 2.5 acres of land. But, Sridhar said the government has been unfair in not implementing the recommendations of the report submitted by Mohammed Peer.

Koragas are demanding the transfer of land in Naada grama which had been inhabited by the Jain community for more than 300 years.

Sridhar said due to lack of education and awareness among the Koragas, people of the community have not exercised their right or handled the property deeds. He alleged that landlords in the past had taken advantage of this and registered land deals in their names.

He said the government had failed to implement the recommendations of the report. According to the report, it has been recommended that the Koragas should be given training and education in farming and also given assistance on farm implements to help the community reach the higher level.
