Bengaluru, Jun 14: JD(S) leader and former chief minister H D Kumarawamy has condemned the steep hike in toll charges on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway and demanded an immediate withdrawal of the hike, which he described as nothing but daylight robbery.
He criticized both the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP for burdening the people with an overnight increase in toll charges of over 20%.
The former chief minister stated that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is "totally insensitive to the plight of the people" and called the sudden increase in toll charges an unbearable burden on the citizens.
"It is the people of Karnataka and the farmers, whose land was acquired for the Expressway, who have suffered all the inconveniences," he pointed out. He further stated that the overnight increase from Rs 30 to Rs 200 was unjustified and amounted to nothing but daylight robbery.
He added that both the BJP government at the Centre and the Congress government in the State have developed a habit of burdening the people.
