Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 25: After a brief respite, the monsoon has regained momentum in the coastal regions of Karnataka. On Saturday, both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts experienced heavy showers throughout the day.
In Beltagandy, a tree fell on a house in Kadirudyavara, while in Mangaluru, a fallen tree disrupted traffic on the Kodical road temporarily.
The incessant rains have caused an increase in water flow in the Kumaradhara river in Kukke, Subramanya. An orange alert has been issued until June 25, followed by a yellow alert from June 25 to 29.
The continuous rainfall has resulted in a decrease in maximum temperatures in both districts. On Saturday, Mangaluru recorded a maximum temperature of 28°C and a minimum of 23.2°C.
In Udupi, heavy rains have battered various parts of the district, causing damage to several houses. Houses belonging to Neelu in Hemmadi, Chandra and Gulabi in Tekkatte, and Muthu Madivalthi in Basruru have been affected.
The water levels in the Swarna and Sita rivers are steadily rising.
In Karkala, heavy rains persisted for two days in Eidu, located on the Western Ghats plateau, resulting in an increase in the water level of the Mundli reservoir.
Kundapur and Byndoor also experienced heavy rains on Saturday, accompanied by violent waves in the sea. Areas such as Kundapur, Byndoor, Koteshwara, Siddapura, Kolluru, and Goliangadi received substantial rainfall.
