Kundapur, Jul 1: Piles of garbage can be seen from Mullikatte junction till Nayakawadi junction on both the sides of the road in the taluk. The deserted area is converted as a dumping yard. Those who pass on the road inevitably have to close their nose. The condition has been in progress since the last two years. Household garbage, debris from building construction, wet waste, dry waste, chicken waste and such other waste is being disposed of unofficially here.

The house waste is being thrown in plastic bags. As wet waste, bits of fish and meat and leftover food items are thrown here, there is a large group of stray dogs here. The dogs come across the two-wheelers while consuming the food in between the garbage causing accidents.

There is the fear of the spread of contagious diseases due to the heaps of garbage. The trash also causes fires in the nearby forest during the summer.

The garbage is usually being thrown at night. Local people have urged for legal action against the miscreants who throw the garbage. Trash is being collected and disposed of at gram panchayat level through SLRM from houses and shops. Therefore, it is suspected that people from outside the area throw garbage here.
