'Aatidonji Dina' at Pilikula Reaffirms Richness of Tulu Culture

Mangalore, Jul 25: It was a rich display of Tulu culture at 'Aatidonji Dina' organised at Heritage Village in Pilikula near here on Monday July 25.
From pots, lanterns, grinders, scythes, farming equipment, rolling pins to other traditional items including board games, the exhibition gave visitors the essence of Tulu culture and heritage. Traditional cuisine added flavour to the event, with lip-smacking delicacies like rice mudde, patrode, appam, ambade, kajipu, a variety of chutneys and so on that delighted epicures.
The programme was inaugurated symbolically with mayor Praveen Anchan and deputy commissioner Channappa Gowda planting saplings of paddy and coconut.
Zilla panchayat president Shailaja Bhat inaugurated the stage programme. She spoke on the importance of preserving the Tulu culture and said that the best way to do so was to introduce children to the values and richness of the culture. Women have a central role in the preservation of any culture, she added, urging everyone gathered to take pride in their culture and language.
Pilikula Nisargadhama Society director J R Lobo in his welcome address said that Pilikula Heritage Village is a treasure trove of the local culture and anyone visiting the Village would be enriched by the experience.
The handicrafts expo was inaugurated by CAMPCO president Konkodi Padmanabha who said that man right from the very beginning had learnt to co-exist with nature, and as time passed by, he evolved various traditions, most of which are centred around nature.
MLA Abhaychandra Jain and others were present.
There were also traditional games, both outdoor and indoor, organised on the occasion in which everyone participated enthusiastically.
