Mangaluru, Jul 5: A house located adjacent to Prema Layout has been completely submerged in water due to heavy rainfall over the past three days.
Prashanth Shetty and his wife Harshini Shetty, both software engineers working in Bengaluru, are currently working from home. Even their elderly parents and children reside in the house, which now has knee-high water inside.
The family has been living in this house for the past 26 years, and they have been facing waterlogging issues for the last 10 years. Over the past decade, the Kottara Chowki road has been completely developed with a concrete surface, causing it to be elevated. Unfortunately, the house is situated adjacent to a major drain at Kottara Chowki, and due to the elevated road, it is at a lower level compared to the road.
Mangaluru has experienced heavy downpours over the past three days, resulting in water entering Prashanth Shetty's house at Kottara Chowki.
Prashanth Shetty expressed his frustration, stating, "This problem has been ongoing for us for the past 10 years. In 2009, we built an additional floor where we currently reside. My brother and his wife, who are also software engineers, are working from home, but due to this crisis, they are unable to work. Even our elderly parents and children living in this house are facing difficulties due to the waterlogging. We had to move the gas stove to the first floor and cook there, as the toilets are submerged in water. No matter how many times we clean the house, within a few hours, heavy rainfall fills it up again. Despite several requests to the corporator and relevant officials, they have failed to address the situation, and we continue to suffer."
The couple is unable to concentrate on their work, and cleaning the house with murky water inside has become a challenging task.
Meanwhile, Harshini Shetty confronted corporator Ranjini S Kotian for failing to address the ongoing issue they are facing.
Additionally, a few houses in Malemar and Kottara Chowki have also experienced water entering their compounds. These areas have been prone to flooding for several years, yet the elected representatives have failed to find a permanent solution to the artificial floods and the problems faced by the locals.
