Passenger mobility will always confront numerous challenges in the day to day life of Mother India due to ever-growing population added with lack of sufficient busses, sufficient roads and lack of government control. How much a police man can do?

Sixty years ago, while we were schooling, busses in Mangalore were still on short supply. Regular bus services from Hampankatta junction to Morgans Gate, Padil, Kulshekhar, Koloor, Bijey and few other spots were still full with limited busses. The rickshaws were non existent in those days, and the taxis were very few. There were a few horse carts near the post office at Kankanady and the poor horses were getting old and older.

Today all our towns and cities are flooded with people. There is traffic everywhere and the supply and demand does not match in any way. Transportation system will get worse every day before it gets better any day. Even the rickshaws are crowded with thousands of school kids crushing each other for their mobility. The traffic situation during the monsoon is even worse with more pot holes causing hazards.

Whenever we visit Mangalore we spend a great deal of time watching the fate of passengers who want to move desperately from place to place. Costs are rising and the facilities are getting tighter in every sense of the way. All that we can whisper in our mind is a simple prayer: "God, please take care of our people, and watch over our country in every step of the way - day after day". Amen
