'Colourful Shadows' Art Expo Depicts Local Culture in New 'Light'

Mangalore, Jul 28:
An exhibition titled ‘Colourful Shadows’ featuring art works by 18 artists from different parts of the country created during the 2010 World Konkani Cultural Convention was inaugurated at Orchid Art Gallery, Hampanakatta here on Thursday July 28.
 
Roy Castelino, patron of Mandd Sobhann inaugurated the exhibition by lighting a lamp. Addressing the gathering, he said that the works at the art exhibition depict the colours and heritage of Konkani culture and its people. He sought the support of the public to the art exhibition by wasy of buying the art works.

Louis J Pinto, president of Mandd Sobhann, Stany Alvaris, Melvyn Rodrigues, director (operations) of daijiworld.com among others were present on the occasion.
 
The 21 oil and acrylic paintings on display at the exhibition are a mirror to the colourful and rich local culture, opines William Pais, director, Orchid Gallery.
 
The fisherwoman with her basketful of bountiful catch by Ahmed, the smoke-filled kitchen by Ramesh Rao, the folk dance of the tribal against the backdrop of a modest hut by Kandan G, traditional work in the style of Khavi Kala by Veena Srinivas where a woman is holding the lamp in front of Tulsi and conducting everyday ritual in the morning, the imprisoned gumot player by Purushotham Adve signify the beauty and at the same time significance of culture. They all echo a unifying thought in one voice.
 
Tribal woman by Syed Asif Ali with her saree entwined in a tree suggests the significance of nature while the cosmic conundrum by Jyothi Sahi grabs attention with its complexity of thought and its attempt at unravelling the ultimate truth.
 
The exhibition will conclude on August 4.
