Udupi: Congress candidate elected president in BJP-majority Kote gram panchayat

Udupi, Aug 18: In a significant turn of events, Pramila Jathanna, supported by the Congress party, has been elected as the president, while Yogish, backed by the BJP, has been chosen as the vice president of Kote gram panchayat in Kaup taluk.

Despite the gram panchayat having 15 members, with eight members affiliated to the BJP and seven to Congress, Pramila Jathanna secured victory with the Congress's backing.

The elections took place on Friday, August 18 where Pramila Jathanna, a Congress member, and Prema Kunder from the BJP contested for the presidential position. Pramila Jathanna secured eight votes, surpassing Prema Kunder who received seven votes. Yogish, supported by the BJP, was elected as the vice president.

Notably, in a strategic turn of events, former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, along with district Congress secretary Prashanth Jathanna and Ashok Nayari, secured positions favoring the Congress party.
