Yenepoya hospitality students celebrate International Coffee Day with ‘Let’s Have Coffee’

Mangaluru, Oct 4: On the occasion of International Coffee Day, the department of hospitality science, Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce & Management (YIASCM), Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) organized “Let’s Have Coffee” at the Food Court, Fiza by Nexus Mall, Mangaluru, on Thursday, October 1.

The event was inaugurated by the dignitaries through a ribbon-cutting ceremony, officially marking the commencement of the coffee experience festival. The inaugural function was graced by Sunil K S, centre head, Fiza by Nexus; Nisha Anchan, senior operations manager, Fiza by Nexus; Sandeep Tauro, food court manager, Fiza by Nexus; Anisha Sheikh, senior marketing executive, Fiza by Nexus; Prakyath, marketing executive, Fiza by Nexus; Dr Prajwal N D, proprietor, Punarva, Mangaluru and runner-up of ChampYen Chef Season 2; Narayana Sukumara, vice principal, YIASCM; Mervin Jaison Vas, head, department of hospitality science; Nitesh Someshwar, convener of Let’s Have Coffee; and student coordinators Sanam and Koushik.

Following the inauguration, all the dignitaries were welcomed with saplings as a symbol of sustainability and gratitude. Addressing the gathering, Sunil K S congratulated the organizers for conceptualizing and executing the event and assured continued support from Fiza by Nexus for future academic and community initiatives.

As part of the programme, creative and informative videos on coffee, prepared by the students of the Department of Hospitality Science, were screened for the audience. Speaking on the occasion, Narayana Sukumara, vice principal, YIASCM, expressed his gratitude to the management and representatives of Fiza by Nexus for providing an excellent platform for students to showcase their skills. He also appreciated the efforts of the faculty members and students and conveyed his best wishes for the success of the event.

In his address, Mervin Jaison Vas, head of the department of hospitality science, thanked the organizing committee, faculty members, student coordinators, volunteers, sponsors, and participants for their dedication and teamwork in making the event a grand success. The inaugural programme was compered by Ratheesh.

The event featured a wide range of hot and cold coffee beverages, along with quick bites and attractive combo offers, prepared and served by the students. One of the major highlights of the event was the “Make Your Own Coffee” experience, which enabled coffee enthusiasts to prepare their own beverages under guidance, making the event both interactive and educational.

Adding further value to the celebration, the Starbucks team conducted a live demonstration on coffee brewing techniques, offering insights into the art and science of preparing quality coffee. The organizers also expressed their sincere gratitude to Deepa Pai, vice president – branding and marketing, Hangyo Ice Creams, for extending sponsorship support to the event. Café Coffee Day was also acknowledged and thanked for its valuable sponsorship and contribution towards the successful conduct of the programme.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, shoppers, coffee lovers, and members of the public, making “Let’s Have Coffee” a memorable celebration of coffee culture while providing a practical learning platform for hospitality students.
