Mangaluru, Aug 22: The Konkani Cultural Organization (KCO) Trust, a premier organization dedicated to preserving culture and enhancing the lives of fellow community members, distributed scholarships to 29 deserving students. The event, organized in collaboration with Samanvaya, Mangalore, aimed to provide financial support to economically disadvantaged students from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi districts, and Gulbarga Diocese.
The event took place at the Bajpe Church Hall on August 13. Commencing with a prayer song, the occasion saw the chief guest, Fr Clery D’Souza from the Gulbarga Diocese and Parish Priest of Bhalki Mission Station, lighting the ceremonial lamp. Michael D’Silva, former President of KCO, extended a warm welcome to the attendees and dignitaries present on the dais. The Managing Trustee of Samanvaya, Dr Pius Fidelis Pinto, briefed the audience about Samanvaya's social welfare initiatives.
Fr Clery D’Souza, the Chief guest, presented scholarship cheques totaling Rs 5.45 lacs to 29 deserving students. In his address, he remarked, "Throughout life, we transition between being givers and receivers. God is the ultimate giver from whom we receive in various measures. KCO has generously supported deserving students, and its collaboration with Samanvaya's activities is commendable."
The President of the function, Bennett D’Mello, an active KCO member and former President, conveyed a message to the students. He reminded them of the significant gesture extended by KCO and encouraged them to become responsible citizens by embracing values in their lives. He emphasized that the scholarship funds must be utilized exclusively for educational purposes.
Robert Rego expressed gratitude on behalf of the organization in his vote of thanks. Fr Ronald Cutinha of Samanvaya served as the emcee. KCO members Frankline D’Cunha, Gerry D’Mello, Gerry Victor Lobo, and Suzie Fernandes graced the event with their presence. Over the past 19 years, KCO Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with Samanvaya, has awarded 1580 scholarships to 469 students, amounting to Rs 1,35,91,100. Additionally, in the current year, scholarships amounting to Rs 2,20,000 were presented to 10 students from the Gulbarga Diocese.
