Mangaluru 'Konkani Manyata Divas' celebrated at Valencia church

Mangaluru, Aug 23: Parishioners of Valencia celebrated the 'Konkani Manyata Divas' at the Golden Jubilee Hall on Sunday August 20. The programme began with a prayer led by the church choir. The chief guest for the programme was Dr Vincent Alva Pamboor, principal of Milagres College Kallianpur. Assistant parish priest Fr Vijay Monteiro welcomed the gathering.

Dr Alva addressing the gathering said that he was overwhelmed looking at the crowd. He encouraged the parents to inculcate their kids to speak Konkani language. He also mentioned that Valencia parish has a lot of talents who have worked towards Konkani language. He appreciated their works and lauded the parish clergy and parish council for organizing such a wonderful programme.

During the programme, felicitation was done to Romeo and Mabel Saldanha who donated for the altar beautification. Godwin and Sherlyn Dsouza who donated for the mega fan and chandeliers. Noel and Jennifer Mascarenhas (represented by Emilda Monteiro) for donating the Sacred Heart of Jesus statue. Parish priest Fr Roque D’Sa also spoke during the occasion.

Steevan Rodrigues, coordinator of all commissions proposed the vote of thanks. Patrick D’Souza compered the programme. The cultural programme began where parishioners performed songs, dance, skit and jokes in Konkani.

Parish priest Fr Roque D’Sa, assistant parish priest Fr Vijay Monteiro, Parish Council vice-president Ronald Rodrigues, secretary Rita Menezes, coordinator Steevan Rodrigues and a sea full of parishioners were present for the programme.

 The programme ended with dinner which was prepared by various wards.
