Udupi district BJP president Kuilady Suresh Nayak said that pubs and discos are functioning illegally with DJ music even after midnight using CL7 and CL9 licences from the excise department. He said, “Some bars and restaurants are conducting business well past the time laid down by the excise department causing problems for local people.

“It is well known that gambling clubs are functioning round the clock across Udupi in the name of recreation clubs. Some of the restaurants on the Manipal DC office road remain open till 3 am. The bar and restaurants in Manipal and the restaurants that remain open till 3 am are dens of consuming drugs. Local students and youth and students arriving from outside the state and abroad are addicted to drugs.

“Therefore, stringent action should be taken against pubs, clubs and restaurants that function illegally and remain open till morning, well past their stipulated timings and the Matka gambling that is widespread in the district,” urged the BJP president to the district SP.
