New Delhi, Aug 8 (IANS) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Monday held a workshop to brief councillors on tackling vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria in the monsoon season.

"Our aim is to eliminate the vector borne diseases which are seen to peak after the monsoon in the months of July and August. We need stronger prevention measures," said MCD health officer N.K. Yadav.

According to the MCD, 25 cases of dengue have been reported so far, while 6,259 cases were reported last year.

"According to the data collected by us, the disease affected the age group 15-45 years at the maximum level last year. These diseases can't be eliminated unless we have the support of the community," said V.K. Monga, chairman of the MCD's health committee.

"With this in mind, the department pressed upon councillors the need to create ward level health and sanitation commitees. The committee will comprise of officials and residents in each ward of the city on a priority basis to tackle the diseases," he added.
