Gandhinagar, Aug 9 (IANS) The Nanavaty-Mehta judicial inquiry commission, probing the 2002 Godhra communal carnage and the statewide riots that followed it, Tuesday adjourned the questioning of three former Gujarat government officers.
The decision was taken following objections raised by NGO Jan Sangarsh Manch (JSM), representing the victims.
The commission earlier summoned five top officers who, according to suspended Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Sanjiv Bhatt, were present during a meeting called by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Feb 27, 2002, after the Godhra train carnage. Bhatt was posted in the intelligence department at that time.
The JSM objected to the summoning of the three retired officers since they have already been examined by the panel.
