Soori shines in ‘Mandaadi’ as Tamil sports drama opens to mixed-to-positive response

Chennai, Sep 11: Soori and Mahima Nambiar-starrer Tamil sports action drama Mandaadi hit theatres on Thursday, September 10, and has begun receiving reactions from moviegoers.

Directed by Mathimaran Pugazhendi, the film is set against the backdrop of traditional boat racing and explores themes of rivalry, friendship and emotions.

Soon after the first shows, viewers took to X to share their opinions, with many praising Soori’s performance, the film’s writing and cinematography. Several viewers also appreciated the background score composed by GV Prakash Kumar.

One user lauded Soori’s screen presence, while others described the film as an engaging entertainer, appreciating the performances of the cast and the visual presentation.

At the box office, however, Mandaadi had a slow start. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film collected around Rs 2.46 crore at the Indian box office from 2,463 shows on its opening day, as of 8 pm on September 10. Its gross collection in India stood at approximately Rs 2.90 crore.

The film faced competition at the box office from Karthi’s Tamil action thriller Sardar 2.

Apart from Soori and Mahima Nambiar, Mandaadi features Sathyaraj, Ravindra Vijay, Suhas, Kritika Balasubramanian, Mithum Jai Shankar and Stunt Siva in important roles.

Produced by Elred Kumar under the RS Infotainment banner, the film has music by GV Prakash Kumar. Cinematography has been handled by SR Kathiir, while Pradeep E Ragav is the editor.
