Marital dispute ends in tragedy as woman jumps to death with infant son

Thane, Sep 1 (IANS): In what seems to be a fallout of a marital dispute, a 26-year-old woman allegedly leaped to her death from a high-rise building, along with her one-year-old son, in this district of Maharashtra on Friday.

According to police, the incident took place after a heated argument between the woman and her husband over a trivial matter.

Priyanka Mohite lived with her husband and their son in a building located on Ghodbunder Road.

The incident took place at around 1.30 am, Inspector (Crime) Y.S Awhad of Kasarvadavali Police Station said.

The couple had a disagreement after the man disallowed his wife to visit her sister's house for Raksha Bandhan. He voiced his reservations against travelling with their infant child.

A distraught Mohite then jumped off the balcony along with her son. They were found in a pool of blood by the neighbours who rushed them to a nearby hospital.

Both were pronounced dead upon arrival by the doctors.

The bodies have been shifted to a government hospital for post-mortem.

A case of accidental death has been registered.
