Kerala Temple Wealth - Committee to Submit Report Next Week

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 13: The five-member committee entrusted with the task of taking the inventory of the wealth belonging to Lord Ananthapadmanabha Swamy Temple here is likely to file its report about the development so far with the Supreme Court during the next week. The committee will meet on August 22 to decide about the propriety of opening the remaining ‘B’ vault.

The committee, headed by C V Ananda Bose, vice chancellor of National Museum Institute, visited the temple on Thursday and perused the security arrangements. Kerala director general of police (DGP), Jacob Punnoose, additional DGP, Venugopal K Nair, inspector general, Padmakumar, and city police commissioner, Manoj Abraham, accompanied him. It is learnt that the police officials held detailed discussions on the security aspects of the temple. Vikas Sharma of Reserve Bank of India has been entrusted with the work of monitoring the security arrangement.

The committee, at its meeting, also considered the issue of conservation, documentation, security, and other issues relating to the riches unearthed from the temple vaults. The prospects of conserving some rare and ancient items in the museum, also was discussed, sources said.

The next steps the committee and the Supreme Court will take are being awaited with curiosity, in the light of the revelation in the divine query that the temple deity is against the opening of the remaining vault, and the recommendations made by the astrological experts towards preserving the sanctity of the temple.
