Udupi, Sep 27: A wild elephant invaded an areca nut farm at Naadpaalu village in Hebri and destroyed the crops and trees.

The elephant destroyed more than 30 areca nut trees and plants in the farm belonging to Someshwara Tanneru Srinivasa Acharya and Udaya Acharya.

The elephant that had gone into the forest returned on Monday, September 25.

A wild elephant had invaded an areca nut farm in Badatingale Udupinamakki and destroyed the crops last month. Villagers have expressed fear and anxiety about the elephant attacks on humans including school children and citizens moving around the area.

Citizens are of the view that the forest department officials should nab the elephants and leave them deep inside the forest.

Agriculturist Tanniru Udaya Acharya has urged the government and forest department officials to assess the damage caused to their farm and produce due to the elephant attack and award a suitable compensation.

He said mobile network connectivity doesn't exist in the area to give information on any problems or such elephant attacks. He said even BSNL network connectivity is not available in Agumbe ghat.

Udaya Acharya urged the concerned officials to look into the matter and resolve the issue suitably.
