Mangaluru: Ladyhill hit-and-run accident – Police begin investigation in various angles

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Oct 20: The city police have begun investigation into the hit-and-run case that occurred on Wednesday afternoon in which a young girl lost her life near Ladyhill.

Five girls were walking on the footpath while the car driven by Kamlesh Baldev crashed into them. It is said that the negligence of the driver is the cause for the accident. The whole tragedy was caught on a nearby CCTV camera.

Speaking to media, city police commissioner Anupam Agarwal said, “The driver did not consume liquor or drugs. The medical examination did not give any evidence of the driver under the influence of liquor or drugs. The driver said that he lost control of the vehicle as the engine of the car got overheated. The RTO officials are going to investigate whether there was any technical fault in the vehicle. In addition, other possibilities are also looked into including other CC camera footages.”

Most of the footpaths in the city are unscientifically built. There is a wide interlock area between road and footpath. Most of the pedestrians walk on the interlock area and not the footpath. Many vehicles are parked on the interlock area also. At many places, footpaths are just one inch above the road. In these places it can be seen that vehicles are parked on the footpath.

The footpath where the accident took place on Wednesday is also just a shade above the concrete road. That is why the car easily climbed onto the footpath.

Investigation is also done to assess whether the driver of the car was speaking on mobile phone while the accident took place. There is a possibility that he might have lost control of steering as one hand is used for mobile phone. Hence, the police are verifying CCTV footages of the travel path of the car just before the accident.

Heating of engine does not lead to losing control of the vehicle. In most cases, if the car is overheated, it automatically ceases running, or one can see smoke emitting near the bonnet area. He could also have hit the brakes when it went over the footpath, but instead he drove off recklessly, leading to the death of this girl. If the police say he is not drunk or abusing drugs, then he must be talking on the phone while driving.

The horrible driver Mr Baldev should have braked after hitting the girls because the girl who died was on his bonnet for a while before she rolled off as he was taking a turn to run away that’s the time he ran over her head. He literally killed here. How come he could park his car some distance away and run home to take his dad along to the police station. Very inhumane behaviour yes he’s done the mistake at least own up at the spot and take them to hospital. Instead of letting them bleed to death. The girl would have been alive if only he braked after hitting the girl on the bonnet of his car would have been alive. If it was his daughter? Would he run or take her to hospital.

Absurd When a engine overheats performance of car gets reduced. Moreover vehicle stops. It's not a old era vehicle. Let all take up this cause on priority basis to deliver justice to victim who lost life. It's killing pedestrian in Daylight. These rich can buy everyone. Saddening to hear comments of Police Department subscribing to overheating view and footpath.

There was a high chances of driver might be a minor or unlicensed person. Because its a hut and run case. Car was not stopped at accident place. May be the driver changed afterwards. Definitely police needs to do investigate in every angles.

Every time there is an accident we get into same discussion. All our roads are unscientific. Here thr roads are made just for the sake of making roads. There is never any thought process applied. After the said unscientific roads result in accidents, we have a universal solution of putting up speed breakers, road barriers (on highways) which are literally death traps. During election, there is never a mention of safer roads, better infrastructure. Its all about religion.

Why is the age of the driver not mentioned ? I believe the driver must be underaged or with out proper driving documents. My condolence to the family members of the deceased soul.

MCC have poor infrastructure development teams. I was recently in Mangalore and while walking I failed differentiate footpath and road. Most of the vehicles are parked on the footpath and some places on the road itself. This driver must have thought road as footpath and footpath as road and killed innocent lives. Seeing lot of accidents in this small city regularly. MCC/RTO need to take this matter seriously.

There's a possibility that the driver could be someone else, perhaps the son of the originais person who cliams that he was the driver. He could be attempting to shield his son, who might have been intoxicated or lacking a valid driver's license

In highways Government having small type of retaining wall to cover both side of the roads, like in city also MCC must construct 2feet wall on both sides, one side dividers are here. With the help of this we can control this types of accidents, athe same time traffic department can control the Pedestrian who are crossing the road and city buses can not stop because no passengers will come by jumping retaining wall .we can control the vehicle's paekingon footpath.

Is there any proof the surrender person is the real driver of the incident ? . Why the real person (who driven the car without DL ) can arrange some one else to surrender to police to misguide the issue ? Proper Query is Required

Looking at the video it doe not seem like any engine trouble... Clearly the driver was distracted by either mobile or peeping on to right side & not concentrating.... These are all eye wash techniques commonly used by the people at fault... Person behind wheels has to be most careful about third party using the roads... here the guy was at high speed like as if he is on a highway and unmindful at what is in front of him.. This speeding problem is a common menace nowadays....

the guy kamlesh baldev is very bold... after doing such an accident any other person would have shivered and would not be able to drive only...it seems he is from influential background...more over the city police commissioner also seems to be from the same north side...now the case will be made puska as the girl who died is from poor family.....

As per site witness the driver was on a video call and got distracted, Boldness in not a right word because this happened of his negligence. A poor girl has lost life and her family should be compensated. When the father and his son driver reported to the police station the police will demand a settlement amount to close the case. police Themself will give ideas to the driver to give a statement like smoke came inside the car /Engine problems /Brake malfunctioned. Actually, in most of these kinds of accidents the poor victims who are seriously injured or deceased, their family don't get compensated. Send driver Baldev’s father to girls home and let him give them financial help to the deceased family too. For driver 7 years rigorous imprisonment with hard labour suggested .

First of all Police and traffic department must put case on MCC. Why that broad footpath??? Is it ti accommodate business peoples???. In Mangalore 60% areas, there's no footpath atall. Some place very narrow and 2 persons can't walk. There is no proper plan. Every where accommodate business owners. Our MCC is full responsible for this tragedy. And fully accountable. There's no educated persons in in MCC ,I believe. Government ( Police department must check) must check everyone staff educational qualification. Compensation is not the solution. What about the life of that child????

As I mentioned yesterday, according to the Indian Road Congress footpaths have to be 150mm or 6 inches high. This is for protection of the pedestrians.

The main culprit is the construction of faulty footpath, the footpath should be there to protect the pedestrians not favouring business establishments and few vehicle owners. The driver is at fault but the death of a young girl would be avoided if the footpath was built properly.
