Kundapur, Nov 1: “The survival of Kannada language is possible when Kannada medium schools grow. Parents should look into it,” said Kundapur sub divisional officer Rashmi S R.

She was speaking after inaugurating the 68th Kannada Rajyotsava celebrated on Kundapur Gandhi Maidan. “There were several campaigns for the unification of Karnataka in the past. The Kannada Sahitya Parishad was formed in 1918. The state anthem ‘Udayavagali Cheluva Kannada Nadu,” was sung for the first time during the Belagavi session in the presence of Mahatma Gandhi in 1920. The campaigns for the unification of Karnataka were held when the nation was being divided later. The Mysore state was formed as a result of campaigns by fighters, authors, groups and organizations. The name of Karnataka came later. Kundapur Kannada has remained pure. It should be our responsibility to make it grow,” she said.

Gangolli police station crime division sub inspector Basavaraj led attractive march past by police, NCC, Scouts and Bharath Seva Dal students. It was followed by a cultural programme by students of various schools.

Kundapur MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi presided over the programme. Kundapur sub divisional SP Belliappa, Kundapur municipal council chief executive Manjunath R K U, municipal council members and others were present. Kundapur block education officer H Shobha Shetty welcomed. Chandrashekar Beejady compered the programme.
