Udupi: Heart disease check-up camp organized at Kemmannu

Udupi, Nov 2: Dr H S Ballal, pro chancellor of MAHE said, “It is really unfortunate that India tops the list of number of heart disease and diabetes patients in the world. Fatal issues can be resolved by getting periodical check-ups and getting proper medicines. The camp that is organized in Kemmannu by many voluntary organizations and workers is a model social work.”

Dr Ballal was speaking at the valedictory function of the heart health check-up camp that was organized at the auditorium of Kemmannu church by Spandana Udupi, St Teresa Church, Cardiology door step foundation, Kemmannu Stree Sanghatane, Health commission, Catholic Sabha Kemmannu, Rotary club Manipal town, Rotary club Kallianpura, Earth Angels and Tonse Ayurvedic hospital.

Dr Padmanabha Kamath, renowned cardiologist of KMC Mangaluru also created awareness about heart disease. He said that he gets immense joy even if he is able to save one life. He was felicitated on the occasion.

Dr Padmanabha Kamath gifted ECG machine, wheel chair and walker to Milagres Homes, residence of retired priests of Udupi diocese. This was received by Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo.

Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo presided over the stage programme that was held at the auditorium of St Theresa church and thanked everyone who made the programme a grand success.

Nurse of local Kemmannu church took ECG of the attendees. Around 400 people took the benefit of the camp. Fr Reginald Pinto, Fr Philip Neri Aranha, Fr Fred Mascarenhas, Manipal town president Rtr Dr Sridhar H, Rtn Divakar, Suji Fernandes, Dr Shrutha Dayananda, Dr Niranjan Shringeri and Rita D’Souza were present.

Fr Reginald Pinto welcomed the gathering. Rtn Hilda Cornelio gave introduction of Dr Kamath. Suji Fernandes rendered vote of thanks. Veronica Cornelio competed the event.
